Selig Enterprises has forwarded an update on the Suburban Plaza redevelopment timelines and restated their commitment to the community.
Here are the highlights of the current timeline:
demolition of parts of existing structures: summer 2014
facade renovations: fall 2014
anticipated redevelopment completion: summer 2015
new tenants open for business: fall 2015

There will be a community meeting to discuss a special land use permit to allow a drive thru establishment in Suburban Plaza on June 24th and 7pm.
Selig and Starbucks representatives will show their plan for a proposed Starbucks with a drive-thru at Suburban Plaza. The Starbucks will be located where the stand alone restaurant is now with drive-thru traffic contained within the shopping center property. All interested neighbors are encouraged to attend.

New Tree Canopy Conservation Ordinance
The Decatur City Commission voted to adopt a new Tree Canopy Conservation Ordinance that will go into effect on July 7, 2014. The purpose of this update is to modernize the current ordinance (which dates back to 1988) and to encourage the conservation of existing tree canopy.
To learn more about the Tree Canopy Conservation Ordinance, a public information meeting has been planned for Monday, June 23rd from 6PM to 8PM at the Leverett Public Works Building, 2635 Talley Street, Community Room.

Sorry this is a bit late.
The 30 MPH residential zoning for Sycamore Drive passed on May 5th and the signs were placed on May 19th. A residential speed zone means police no longer have to allow a 10 MPH cushion before giving a ticket. This will serve to prevent excessive speeding down our residential streets here in Decatur Heights.
Warning citations will be given until June 19th, with an exception for those who would have been speeding based on the previous speed limits.
What is the LCI?: The Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) is a program of the Atlanta Regional Commission that awards planning grants on a competitive basis to local governments and non-proﬁt organizations. Grants are used to prepare plans for the enhancement of existing centers and corridors consistent with regional development policies.
The LCI Medline Plan Celebration is this Thursday from 6-8pm. Should be an informative and fun time. This will be the final planned public meeting
An optional bike tour of the area will begin at 7pm. The event will be held at the International Community School which is located at 2418 Woodland Trail (at the very end of Medlock Rd).
